What is COB LED screen?

COB (Chip on Board) is an LED display packaging technology that is different from traditional LED display technology. COB technology installs multiple LED chips directly on a circuit board, eliminating the need for separate packaging. This technology increases brightness and reduces heat, making the display more seamless.

Advantages compared to traditional LED screens

COB LED screens have obvious advantages over traditional LED screens in terms of performance. It has no gaps between LED chips, ensuring uniform illumination and avoiding problems such as the “screen door effect”. In addition, COB screens offer more accurate colors and higher contrast.

Advantages of COB LED screen

Due to the smaller size of LED chips, the density of COB packaging technology has increased significantly. Compared with surface mount devices (SMD), COB’s arrangement is more compact, ensuring display uniformity, maintaining high intensity even when viewed at close range, and having excellent heat dissipation performance, thereby improving stability and reliability. COB packaged chips and pins enhance air tightness and resistance to external forces, forming a seamless polished surface. In addition, COB has higher moisture-proof, anti-static, damage-proof and dust-proof properties, and the surface protection level can reach IP65.

In terms of technical process, SMD technology requires reflow soldering. When the solder paste temperature reaches 240°C, the epoxy resin loss rate can reach 80%, which can easily cause the glue to separate from the LED cup. COB technology does not require a reflow process and is therefore more stable.

COB LED technology improves the pixel pitch. Smaller pixel pitch means higher pixel density, thus achieving higher resolution. Viewers can see clear images even if they are close to the monitor.

The COB chip is directly glued onto the PCB, which expands the heat dissipation area and the light attenuation is far better than that of SMD.
